Facial Feminization Surgery
Browlift
In facial feminizing surgery, a brow elevator is almost always combined with forehead recontouring and hairline lowering. These procedures use the same incision. The arch as well as the position of the eyebrows are influenced by the shape of the forehead bone that lies beneath them. Therefore, when feminizing the forehead, it is very important to correct the position and shape of the eyebrows with a brow lift after forehead recontouring is performed.
Difference between a male and female eyebrow
Male eyebrow
- Just below the upper edge of the eye socket
- Straight and thick Female eyebrow
Female eyebrow
- At or just above the upper edge of the eye socket
- More arched and thinner
Procedure
For a browlift with long-lasting results, the skin of the forehead must be fully mobilized. During surgery, the skin is detached from the skull. Two options exist:
- A deep incision in the hair, known as the bicoronal incision. The disadvantage of this incision is that the hairline is shifted backward as the scalp is lifted.
- An incision only a few millimeters into the hair, known as the hairline incision. This is usually the most commonly chosen method.
To ensure that the facial nerve is not damaged, we choose the plane of dissection directly above the bone under a very tight membrane covering the outer surface of the forehead bone, called the periosteum.
To mobilize the eyebrows, an incision of the periosteum can be made just below the eyebrows. Once the eyebrows are moved to the desired position, the incision is skillfully resealed.
Recovery
Symptoms such as swelling, bleeding or numbness occur to varying degrees, which will gradually decrease over the long term.

I underwent Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) performed by Dr. Beckers and Dr. Van Genechten from Face2Face Clinic. It is undoubtedly one of the best decisions I have ever made.
