FUE
Follicular Unit Extraction
FUE is short for Follicular Unit Extraction and is the newest method of hair transplantation. It is the successor to the FUT method (also known as the strip method). In FUE, the hair follicles (grafts) are transplanted one by one from the donor area to the balding or thinner areas. The FUE hair transplant is performed under local anesthesia, so anesthesia is not necessary. No stitches are used.
Procedure
A hair transplant using the FUE method proceeds as follows:
Step 1: Determining the hairline and delineating the treatment areas
Before the hair transplant procedure begins, an experienced hair technician will first thoroughly examine your scalp and discuss with you what your wishes are. This includes looking at the desired shape and density of the new hair. Next, the hair technician will apply the necessary contours and markings to your scalp with a marker. This is an important part of the procedure, as it sets the guidelines for transplanting the hair follicles to the desired area. It is important that you communicate your wishes well with the hair technician during this step so that they can be optimally included in the marking process and the final result meets your expectations.
Step 2: Removal of the grafts
After the donor area is prepared and anesthetized, the hair technician proceeds to harvest the grafts. To do this, you will be asked to lie on your stomach while the technician uses a 0.3 mm micro-drill to collect grafts one at a time. This procedure usually takes about two hours, but the length of time may vary depending on the number of grafts to be collected. Next, the grafts that have been harvested are thoroughly inspected and prepared to be implanted in the recipient area.
Step 3: Opening the incision channels
During this step, you lie on your back. This time the recipient area is locally anesthetized. In this area, we make incisions in the direction of hair growth. A hair technician opens the channels around the hairline in the recipient area.
Step 4: Implanting the grafts
The grafts are implanted back into the incisions one by one.
Step 5: Aftercare
After the hair transplant, your scalp will be treated and a bandage will be applied. In addition, over the next few days, you will receive helpful instructions on what to expect after a hair transplant.
