Preparation for your procedure

A surgical procedure can bring along stress and many questions. Through this blog post, you will be well informed and can use this information as a guide to prepare yourself for your procedure.

Your procedure has been scheduled - an exciting and important moment!

In addition to the Informed Consent and financial agreement that you will receive by email from Joa, the personal assistant of Dr. O. Beckers, we require a general blood test and an ECG for every procedure performed under general anesthesia. We kindly ask you to provide these results no later than four weeks before your scheduled surgery date.

Please schedule an appointment with your general practitioner in time so that you do not forget these documents. Do you need a prescription? No problem. You can contact Joa, and she will provide the necessary prescription.

You may send the results by email to:

The results will be reviewed in a timely manner by our anesthesiologist. If necessary, he will contact you. If you do not hear from our anesthesiologist, you may assume that everything is in order.

For every procedure under general anesthesia, you must arrive fasting. This means you may not eat or drink anything starting eight hours before the procedure.

We also kindly ask that on the day of your procedure you:

  • do not wear make-up

  • do not wear jewelry

  • do not have gel polish or artificial nails

  • do not wear dentures

You should arrive as a “blank canvas,” so to speak.

If you are undergoing a procedure under local anesthesia, a standard blood test and ECG are not required. You also do not need to fast.

Timing of your procedure

Joa, the personal assistant of Dr. O. Beckers, will inform you by email and/or phone of the exact time you are expected to arrive.

Please monitor your email and phone closely in the days leading up to your procedure. Due to possible changes in the schedule, your arrival time may occasionally be moved earlier or later.

We also kindly ask you to provide the phone number of a contact person:

  • whom we may update about the progress of your procedure

  • who will pick you up after the procedure

For procedures under local anesthesia, it is not mandatory for someone to pick you up, but we do recommend it.
For procedures under general anesthesia, we strongly recommend that someone accompanies you and picks you up.

Please wear comfortable clothing.

After the procedure, a member of the clinic staff will contact your designated contact person once you are sufficiently recovered to be picked up.

If you are staying overnight in our guesthouse, a nurse will be present throughout the night to assist you whenever necessary.

What to bring if you are staying overnight

Adapter
Please bring an adapter for your electronic devices so you can use them without any issues.

Entertainment
Feel free to bring your preferred forms of entertainment, such as a laptop, music, books, magazines, or puzzles. You will be resting a lot in the first days after surgery, and entertainment can help pass the time comfortably.

Personal Items
Bring items that provide comfort, such as a stuffed toy or family photos. They can make your stay more pleasant.

Comfortable Clothing and Pajamas
Comfort is more important than fashion. Loose-fitting clothing and pajamas are ideal, preferably with zippers or buttons so you do not need to pull them over your head.

Sunglasses
Useful for concealing swelling or possible bruising.

Glasses
If you wear contact lenses and are undergoing a procedure around the eyes or forehead, you may not be able to wear lenses temporarily after surgery. Please make sure to bring glasses.

Extra Pajamas
After surgery, there may occasionally be slight fluid leakage from the incision sites. It is helpful to have extra sleepwear available.

Meals
We provide balanced meals specifically designed to support recovery and that are easy to consume after surgery.

Pick-up after overnight stay

If you are staying in our guesthouse, your contact person may pick you up at 8:00 AM at the clinic.

If this time is not convenient, please inform Joa in advance so she can adjust the schedule accordingly.

Accommodation

We collaborate with Villa Studio 151, located just 5 minutes from the clinic.

If you are an international patient and wish to stay overnight, either alone or together with your partner or companion, you may contact Joa. She will be happy to provide you with the necessary contact details so you can arrange your stay comfortably and in close proximity to the clinic.

Medication

A few days before your procedure, Dr. O. Beckers will upload your prescribed medication to your ID card. We recommend collecting your medication before the surgery date so that you have everything at home in advance.

Joa will inform you by email once the medication has been uploaded and will provide you with clear instructions on how to take it.

Follow-up appointments and availability

You will receive an overview of your follow-up appointments after your procedure.

If you have questions after your surgery, Joa is available 7 days a week at:
+32 471 73 14 65

If she is unable to answer immediately, she will return your call as soon as possible.
